Role Overview

Brigit is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join the team in San Francisco on a hybrid schedule. This position suits an experienced professional who wants to help millions of Americans access affordable financial services and achieve financial wellness by building and maintaining core machine learning models.

Key Responsibilities

Design, test, and deploy new risk and underwriting models to accurately predict credit risk.
Own the complete modeling lifecycle, taking projects from initial conception all the way to production.
Create and improve models focused on detecting fraud and optimizing payment and transaction timing.
Help establish best practices surrounding model training, feature development, testing, and continuous monitoring.
Examine shifting trends within the customer base to identify opportunities for product enhancement.
Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and business departments to achieve company goals.
Guide and mentor junior or aspiring data scientists across the broader data organization.

Requirements

Possess six or more years of professional experience in data science, covering both modeling and analysis.
Hold an advanced degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or a related discipline.
Demonstrate proven expertise in modern machine learning techniques and principles.
Practical coding experience using Python along with tools such as pandas, sklearn, JupyterLab, statsmodels, and matplotlib.
Ability to write complex SQL queries and combine multiple data sources.
Experience in creating training datasets, handling hyperparameter tuning, running production A/B tests, and overseeing model performance.
Background in developing classification and prediction models within a fast-paced startup environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical ideas clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.

Salary and Benefits

The anticipated annual base salary ranges from $185,000 to $225,000, complemented by a 10% annual bonus opportunity. Additional compensation factors depend on relevant experience, qualifications, unique skills, and education.
