Role Overview

The Director of Data Science position at Brigit is a full-time leadership role based in New York City with hybrid flexibility. This role suits an experienced data science manager who wants to guide a scaling team, integrate advanced AI-assisted workflows, and partner closely with product domains.

Key Responsibilities

Manage, mentor, and expand a team of data scientists dedicated to modeling core business problems.
Guide team members as they develop quantitative models using industry-standard techniques in Python.
Evangelize data science capabilities across product, engineering, and operations teams to create a high-impact roadmap.
Facilitate quarterly planning sessions with business stakeholders to align the team's strategic direction.
Spearhead the adoption of AI-assisted development and agentic workflows, ensuring rigorous standards for review, validation, privacy, and quality.
Collaborate with the Modeling Engineer to enhance infrastructure for model research, development, and deployment.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of data science management experience leading a team of greater than 3 people.
At least 5 years of total modeling and data science experience.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience at a consumer product company.
Deep technical proficiency in SQL and Python, paired with familiarity in analytics and machine learning tools such as dbt, Airflow, Spark, and MLflow.
Strong communication skills to translate complex analysis into practical insights for executive and commercial stakeholders.
Demonstrated passion for nurturing talent and fostering a culture rooted in accountability and data-driven results.
Hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted coding and agentic solutions like Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or OpenAI Codex.

Nice to Have

Practical background in applying predictive modeling to credit risk assessment, churn prediction, loss forecasting, and revenue forecasting.
A Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or Applied Mathematics.
