Role Overview

Mistral AI is seeking a Lead Applied Scientist in Seoul to spearhead the regional growth and technical execution of advanced artificial intelligence solutions. This full-time leadership position within the Solutions department suits an autonomous technical and business expert ready to manage complex research projects and guide high-stakes frontier science initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the technical execution and strategic initiatives of the regional Applied Science team while establishing a strong workplace culture.
Serve as the primary internal and external technical contact for regional projects, including pre- and post-sales technical scoping, event hosting, and C-suite stakeholder engagement.
Execute pre-training, post-training, and deployment of state-of-the-art models on large GPU clusters.
Tackle diverse real-world problems across domains such as robotics, engineering, finance, cybersecurity, and physics.
Generate and curate data for training cycles, conduct model evaluations, and ensure performance surpasses benchmarks and customer expectations.
Create necessary frameworks and tools to support data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment processes.

Requirements

Fluent in both English and Korean with exceptional communication abilities for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven experience leading a technical AI, science, or engineering team, balancing individual contributor work with leadership and stakeholder management.
Expert proficiency utilizing PyTorch or JAX.
Capable of contributing independently to large codebases with minimal guidance.
Writes clean, high-performance, fault-tolerant, and readable Python code.
Highly autonomous and confident in navigating uncertainty without fixed roadmaps.
Demonstrates a low-ego, collaborative, and eager-to-learn attitude with a documented track record of success.

Nice to Have

Background as an ex-founder or builder with a passion for cultivating dynamic team cultures.
Possession of a Master degree or PhD in Machine Learning, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Specialized research experience in areas like agents, multimodal models, world models, robotics, diffusion models, cybersecurity, 3D understanding, or time-series analysis.
Prior experience working on large machine learning models or codebases at scale.
History of contributions to major industry or open-source codebases.
Published work in top-tier academic journals or conferences.
Enjoyment of improving existing codebases through testing, typing, and continuous integration pipelines.
