Role Overview

Mistral AI is seeking a Head of Applied AI Engineering in Seoul to help clients adopt its products and resolve difficult technical challenges. Operating within the Applied AI Engineering group, the professional guides deployments from the initial pre-sale phase through post-implementation. The job involves directing multi-stakeholder relationships with corporate leaders, data scientists, and developers while bridging advanced research and production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Write critical lines of code as an individual contributor to de-risk complex projects through hands-on development, code reviews, and performance optimization.
Manage technical teams of Applied AI Engineers by supplying mentorship and establishing best practices for deploying generative AI applications.
Facilitate pre-sale technical discussions, converting client objectives into viable architectural solutions.
Architect and supervise advanced AI systems involving retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning, autonomous agent workflows, and bespoke large language models.
Identify emerging artificial intelligence trends, evaluate new methodologies, and champion deployment standards.
Collaborate with product managers, researchers, and core engineers to channel client feedback into the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

Fluent in English alongside native Korean language skills.
Educational background featuring a PhD or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence or Data Science, or equivalent self-taught experience.
Minimum of 10 years working as a technical individual contributor as a software engineer or data scientist focusing on AI products.
Practical background in large language model fine-tuning, complex retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic use cases.
Comprehensive comprehension of the algorithms and concepts driving machine learning and large language models.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and deployment procedures for artificial intelligence systems.
History of building or deploying products intended for large user bases.
Outstanding communication talents capable of clarifying intricate technical topics for both technical and non-technical groups.

Nice to Have

Previous contributions to open-source projects, particularly within the large language model space.
Background working as a Forward Deployed Engineer, Staff Machine Learning Engineer, or Staff Data Scientist.
Experience acting as a founder or founding team member of a rapidly scaling startup.
