Role Overview

The Lead Applied AI Engineer sits within the Solutions department at Mistral AI, operating on-site in Seoul. This position drives the successful deployment of artificial intelligence products by partnering with enterprise clients from the initial pre-sale phase through post-implementation. The person in this role balances hands-on coding with technical leadership, guiding teams and ensuring that custom AI systems meet customer demands in high-stakes sectors like finance, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Write critical lines of code as a hands-on individual contributor, de-risking complex projects through active coding, code reviews, and performance optimization.
Lead technical teams of Applied AI Engineers by sharing mentorship, establishing best practices, and guiding the deployment of generative AI applications across various industries.
Lead technical discussions in pre-sales environments to translate client requirements into concrete solutions while explaining technological advantages to diverse stakeholders.
Design and oversee complex artificial intelligence architectures encompassing Retrieval-Augmented Generation, fine-tuning, agentic workflows, and custom large language model applications.
Track emerging industry trends, evaluate novel methodologies, and champion deployment standards for inference and model tuning.
Collaborate with product managers, researchers, and fellow engineers to channel customer feedback directly into product development cycles.

Requirements

Fluent in English and Korean.
Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a technical individual contributor working with cutting-edge technology.
Strong coding proficiency in TypeScript and Python.
Practical background using front-end frameworks such as VueJS, React, or NextJS.
Hands-on experience utilizing back-end technologies like NodeJS.
Firm grasp of core software engineering principles, including algorithms, data structures, and design patterns.
Outstanding communication abilities capable of explaining complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

Practical familiarity with generative AI models and large language models.
Prior contributions made to open-source libraries or software projects.
Previous background working as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or Technical Product Manager.
