About this role

Tenstorrent is seeking a skilled High Speed AI Interconnect Signal Integrity Engineer to design and validate high-bandwidth links for large-scale AI systems across locations in Austin, Santa Clara, and Toronto. This on-site role suits experienced electrical engineers eager to shape the future of high-performance artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Role Overview

In this position, the engineer will define, model, and qualify advanced interconnect solutions using both copper and optical technologies for next-generation AI training and inference clusters. Responsibilities include shaping the architecture of high-speed connections between systems, ensuring optimal performance for massive computing deployments. The professional will work directly with hardware, systems, and manufacturing teams to address complex connectivity challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Define and specify high-speed interconnect architectures connecting systems within large AI clusters.
Develop requirements, validation plans, and testing strategies for passive and active copper cables alongside optical transceivers spanning 100G, 400G, 800G, and 1.6T.
Document topologies, routing assumptions, and precise cable requirements for both internal projects and customer-facing clusters.
Perform thorough link and channel budget analysis, covering loss, jitter, eye margin, and bit error rate considerations across process, voltage, temperature, and aging.
Lead qualification and reliability testing, including accelerated life testing, mating life evaluations, and failure analysis for interconnect components.
Interface directly with industry suppliers to track roadmaps and align internal system designs with future interconnect capabilities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working on high-speed communications ranging from 100G to 1.6T, encompassing signal integrity, channels, and links.
Comfortable building and owning link and channel budgets while making clear tradeoffs between reach, loss, bit error rate, and margin.
Hands-on proficiency with signal integrity tools and laboratory equipment such as Keysight ADS, vector network analyzers, time-domain reflectometers, bit error rate testers, and protocol analyzers.
Familiarity with cable specification, testing methodologies, accelerated life testing, mating life, and failure analysis.
Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to Have

Manufacturing, DFM, or DTM experience.

Skills and Tools

Signal integrity methodologies and high-speed communications (100G–1.6T)
Link and channel budget creation and tradeoff analysis
Laboratory tools: Keysight ADS, VNAs, TDRs, BERTs, and protocol analyzers
Cable specification, testing, accelerated life testing, and failure analysis
Copper and optical technology integration
