About this role

Analyzing complex production workloads and reducing them into representative traces forms the core of daily operations in this group. Engineers bridge hardware and software domains by running real-world applications on RISC-V platforms, characterizing behavior, and identifying opportunities to boost efficiency and scalability. Team members collaborate closely with CPU architects, RTL designers, software engineers, and compiler groups to translate insights from demanding cloud and agentic AI workloads into concrete architectural improvements.

Tenstorrent builds high-performance RISC-V CPUs from scratch alongside advanced AI platforms. This position exists to shape the performance of next-generation hardware through rigorous workload analysis and simulation. Ideal candidates bring a strong background in computer architecture, a curious mindset regarding hardware-software co-design, and the technical communication skills needed to drive consensus across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

What you will do

  • Analyze modern datacenter and agentic AI workloads to characterize CPU behavior on RISC-V platforms.
  • Collaborate with CPU architects and RTL designers to translate workload insights into architectural improvements.
  • Reduce large production workloads into representative workloads and traces for performance modeling.
  • Correlate simulation results with hardware behavior to enhance scalability and performance-per-watt efficiency.
  • Work across the hardware and software boundary involving operating systems, compilers, and runtimes.

What you need

  • Hold a PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of CPU architecture, including pipelines, speculative execution, and vector or SIMD extensions.
  • Bring hands-on experience with performance analysis and simulation tools such as Linux perf, strace, QEMU, or CPU simulators.
  • Possess strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, Bash or Shell, and assembly or intrinsic programming.
  • Show a strong understanding of systems software including operating systems, virtualization, compilers, and runtimes.
