About this role

Flux is hiring a Head of Hardware Design in San Francisco to lead the evolution of the world's first AI hardware engineer platform. This multidisciplinary leadership role suits an experienced electrical engineering expert passionate about building advanced electronic tools and defining AI design behaviors.

Role Overview

In this position, the professional will own hardware design practices, guiding principles, and ECAD tool capabilities. The individual will serve as the primary design partner for AI and machine learning teams to establish guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and best practices. Starting as a hands-on manager with two direct reports, the leader will scale the Hardware Design function, drive rapid prototypes, and represent the voice of the customer.

Key Responsibilities

Drive ECAD feature design and product requirements across placement, routing, constraints, stackup, and manufacturing outputs.
Partner with AI and machine learning teams to teach the AI hardware engineer how to design successful products.
Build and scale the Hardware Design function by mentoring team members and defining core responsibilities.
Lead quick-turnaround hardware prototypes from schematic to bring-up and perform thermal and power validation.
Amplify user insights by channeling feedback loops and customer relationships into iterative product strategies.

Requirements

Extensive electrical engineering experience spanning RF and wireless, EMI and EMC, power electronics, analog and mixed-signal, and high-speed digital design.
Expertise in signal and power integrity, PCB stackup, DFM, DFT, and manufacturing workflows.
Proficiency in multiple ECAD tools, simulation software, and lab instrumentation.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate user needs into clear technical specifications.
Proven leadership ability to function as both a hands-on engineer and a people manager.

Nice to Have

Experience in a larger technical organization with a track record of shipping hardware at scale.
On-the-ground factory, test, mass production, and yield optimization background.
Prior customer-facing or design-partner experience turning user feedback into product wins.
Practical exposure to AI and machine learning concepts such as prompting, evaluation, or data curation.

Skills and Tools

ECAD platforms including Altium, Cadence Allegro or OrCAD, Mentor Xpedition, KiCad, and Zuken.
Simulation tools including SPICE, ADS, HyperLynx, SIwave, and HFSS.
Lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, logic analyzers, and power analyzers.
Figma for design collaboration.

Salary and Benefits

Annual base salary ranging from $245,000 to $270,000 USD.
Meaningful equity in the company.
Comprehensive benefits package.
