About this role

Role Overview

The Hardware Product Lead for V2X DC Bidirectional Charging at Emporia Energy is an onsite role based in Littleton, Colorado, reporting directly to the SVP of Product. This position suits an experienced hardware professional with a strong track record in product management, program execution, and navigating complex certification landscapes. Working closely with both internal teams and external suppliers, the lead takes complete ownership of taking the V2X DC bidirectional charging program from its current EVT stage through validation, certification, launch, and ramp.

Key Responsibilities

Close remaining gaps in the concept phase by taking over the Product Requirements Document (PRD), Product Concept Document (PCD), and locking down the interface between the supplier's power electronics and the in-house Vehicle Integration Board.
Own the business case, unit economics, supplier costs, board costs, installed costs, and market pricing to maintain accurate competitive positioning and sound go/no-go recommendations.
Drive program delivery through EVT, DVT, and PVT stages, holding the critical path across the inverter supplier, internal board development, test, and operations teams.
Manage safety and interconnection pathways including compliance with UL 9741, ISO 15118, IEEE 1547, and UL 1741 SB while coordinating with labs and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Engage with automotive OEMs to secure a validated and approved vehicle list at launch, handle compatibility testing, and navigate utility interconnection across launch territories.
Lead go-to-market execution alongside marketing, business development, and customer support, overseeing positioning, pricing, launch messaging, and channel readiness.
Oversee the initial manufacturing ramp, first installations, commissioning results, and early field performance before handing off the product to Operations and Sustaining.
Champion native AI adoption across every project phase to automate manual tasks, optimize workflows, and eliminate handoffs without sacrificing rigorous stage-gate discipline.

Requirements

5+ years of experience spanning product management and program or delivery management for hardware, complete with full ownership through a product launch.
Strong program management expertise involving mixed builds, including holding white-label, ODM, or contract partners accountable to strict specifications, costs, and schedules.
Demonstrated track record as a Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) who is comfortable with ambiguity, parallel workstreams, and clean handoffs at product ramp.
Direct experience working with EV charging, power electronics, inverters, or other grid-connected hardware.
Proven background operating in certification-heavy environments with direct ownership of safety and interconnection approval paths.
Experience collaborating with automotive OEMs, utilities, or other institutional partners.
Heavy, fluent use of AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok, accompanied by a habit of building custom tooling and prompting team adoption.
Strong business acumen with the ability to manage business cases, unit economics, and margin trade-offs.
Exceptional cross-functional leadership skills, leading through influence and escalating effectively without formal reporting authority.

Nice to Have

Direct experience with DC fast charging, V2G, V2H, or other bidirectional charging products along with UL 9741, ISO 15118, IEEE 1547, or UL 1741 standards.
Automotive OEM program, validation, or homologation experience.
Familiarity with utility interconnection or grid-services programs.
Prior ownership of board-level designs, including electrical and firmware aspects, through validation and production.
A career history blending both product management and program management in fast-paced, test-driven environments.
