About this role
Architecting, securing, and optimizing the global GPU fleet powering customer AI workloads constitutes the core day-to-day focus of the Global Capacity Manager at Baseten. Operating in the engine room of the company, this individual owns the end-to-end capacity management journey, from securing multi-million dollar GPU clusters to building the automation that ensures high uptime across multi-cloud environments.
Bridging the gap between high-finance asset management and deep infrastructure engineering, the role requires acting as the fleet orchestrator for advanced chips while maintaining elite unit economics. Candidates who thrive in this high-stakes engineering position are entrepreneurial engineers capable of handling hands-on Kubernetes orchestration and leading specialized pods focused on next-generation hardware.
What you will do
- Manage the full lifecycle of acquisition, air traffic control, and maintenance for specific GPU pods.
- Execute complex workload migrations and deployment drains while adhering to strict regional and compliance requirements.
- Design and implement scalable capacity management systems capable of handling a 10x increase in GPU volume.
- Build ROI models for GPU spend by leveraging an understanding of unit economics to ensure profitable scaling.
- Partner with SRE, Infra, and FDE teams to verify last-mile follow-through on infrastructure changes and absorb operational tasks.
- Lead incident response during capacity-crunch situations by rapidly untainting and recoordinating workloads.
What you need
- Hold a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Bring 5+ years of professional work experience in a high-growth environment, preferably at a hyperscaler or specialized GPU provider.
- Demonstrate deep expertise in Kubernetes, including hands-on experience with taints, cordons, node draining, and custom operators.
- Possess production-level experience with Go or Python.
- Exhibit strong financial literacy with the ability to model complex trade-offs between capacity reliability and cost.
