Role Overview

Thumbtack seeks a Full-Stack Engineer for the AI Platform team to develop internal systems that make automated agent workflows reliable for business teams. The position involves creating user interfaces and supporting services that allow internal departments to configure agents, audit actions, and review performance across operations.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop interfaces enabling business teams to configure agents, review work, and approve or correct operational actions.
Create evaluation and observability tooling to measure agent behavior, identify successes or failures, and track performance changes.
Develop features across the entire technology stack, spanning React, TypeScript, service code, and data models through testing, launch, and iteration.
Collaborate directly with internal business units to translate operational challenges into functional software solutions.
Manage the complete lifecycle of delivered projects, including ongoing monitoring and post-launch improvements.

Requirements

Three or more years of professional software engineering experience.
Frontend proficiency in React and TypeScript, covering complex application state and data-dense user interfaces.
Backend engineering capabilities, with an expectation to learn new programming languages as needed.
Experience working with relational and non-relational data stores such as Postgres and DynamoDB.
Product judgment to evaluate workflows, determine development priorities, and scope features.
Familiarity with non-deterministic systems, handling uncertainty, and designing mechanisms for human correction.
Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and close knowledge gaps.

Total cash compensation varies by location, ranging from $177,700.00 to $229,900.00 for major metropolitan areas like San Francisco, New York City, and Seattle.
Compensation ranges from $159,800.00 to $206,800.00 for locations including Austin, Washington DC, and specified states.
Compensation ranges from $151,300.00 to $195,800.00 for all other United States locations.
