The Finance Engineer at AssemblyAI in the United States builds the data pipelines, dashboards, and automation tools that run the finance function and revenue operations. Key Responsibilities

Own unit economics by building and maintaining cost-to-serve, gross margin, and contribution models by product, customer, and workload from source data.
Manage budgeting for the technology organization, including cloud and GPU/TPU spend attribution, vendor forecasting, and capacity planning models.
Create trusted finance dashboards tracking burn, runway, margin, and company KPIs for leadership and the board.
Automate budget-versus-actuals tracking with live departmental views and overspend alerts.
Establish the deal desk framework with pricing guardrails, automated quote generation, and routing to increase deal throughput.
Automate sales compensation by implementing comp tools and pipelines using CRM and billing data.
Design and deploy finance agents and internal tools to streamline data retrieval and reporting for non-engineers.
Build and maintain the finance data layer connecting billing, payroll, cloud, and accounting systems to a warehouse.
Partner with executive leadership to trace data discrepancies to their source and implement permanent fixes.

Requirements

Strong data engineering fundamentals encompassing SQL, Python, warehouse modeling, and orchestration tools such as dbt and Airflow.
Strong measurement discipline, defining metrics clearly and treating unexplained variances as problems to solve.
Appetite for the full stack, with a willingness to investigate root causes across billing events or cloud tags.
Experience working with financial or operational data like revenue, cost, billing, payroll, or cloud spend.
Track record of building internal tools, dashboards, or automations relied upon by non-engineers daily.
Familiarity with LLM-based agent workflows and practical application to operational processes.
Enthusiasm for automating manual work and improving system reliability.
Excellent communication skills to explain financial data clearly to technical and financial leaders.

Nice to Have

Finance or accounting background, prior FP&A, analytics, or accounting experience, or a grasp of usage-based and API unit economics.
Revenue operations exposure including CRM or CPQ data, sales compensation tools, or deal desk management.
Proficiency with accounting, billing, or ERP system APIs like NetSuite or Stripe.
