About this role
Suno needs to bridge the gap between a single-player music creation tool and a vibrant creative network, and the Engineering Manager for the Social team will solve this exact problem. This person will lead a small group of fullstack product engineers building the network effects, user profiles, follow graphs, and engagement mechanics that help millions express themselves. Working out of the NYC office, the leader will own talent acquisition, technical direction, and team delivery while collaborating closely with product, design, and data science.
Success in this role requires a hands-on approach where setting the technical bar by example is paired with structured performance management and ambiguous zero-to-one product building. Ideal candidates bring a strong intuition for social dynamics, a history of shipping consumer products at startup speed, and a genuine appreciation for music. The position offers a chance to shape a new medium alongside teammates who value quality and high-intensity execution.
What you will do
- Lead a small team of fullstack product engineers responsible for notifications, profiles, follow graphs, and social engagement features.
- Hire, develop, and manage engineering talent through rigorous performance cycles and mentorship across the stack.
- Guide the architectural direction of scalable social systems with a strong emphasis on mobile-first API design.
- Collaborate with product, design, and data science teams to discover and foster emergent social behaviors.
- Deliver retention-focused features with comprehensive logging, metrics analysis, and post-launch follow-up.
- Contribute directly to the codebase and review code to help the team navigate technical trade-offs.
What you need
- Bring five to seven years of total software engineering experience, including two to four years in engineering management.
- Demonstrate a clear intuition and first-principles thinking for social products, network effects, and sticky consumer applications.
- Possess enough technical depth to guide architecture, review code, and stay hands-on when necessary.
- Show a proven track record of creating structure in ambiguous zero-to-one environments at a startup pace.
- Communicate effectively across asynchronous and cross-functional teams to reduce ambiguity.
- Share a personal passion for listening, exploring, or making music.
