About this role

Nourish is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead Provider Quality based in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA. This full-time leadership position is ideal for an experienced technical professional who enjoys developing engineers, shaping products, and tackling complex healthcare challenges.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Engineering Manager for Provider Quality will own the team dedicated to helping clinicians deliver exceptional, personalized patient care. This team is driving a major technical initiative to evolve the traditional clinician chart into an intelligent, data-driven, real-time care platform. During patient sessions, the platform transcribes conversations and surfaces condition-specific guidance while maintaining clinical judgment. Post-session, the intelligence layer powers chart notes, personalized coaching, and provider development.

Key Responsibilities

Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of 4 to 5 engineers with strong technical ownership.
Coach team members through regular feedback, career development, calibration, and performance management.
Scale the engineering team through recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
Stay hands-on through architecture design, pair programming, coding, code reviews, and on-call duties.
Partner with product and design teams to write requirements, shape roadmaps, scope work, plan sprints, and deliver measurable outcomes.
Drive thoughtful decisions regarding system design, code quality, observability, reliability, and scalability.
Establish effective team rituals, such as sprint planning, OKR planning and reporting, quarterly planning, and retrospectives.
Set the technical and product direction for the clinician-facing quality platform.
Build AI-assisted workflows that transform session transcripts into accurate chart notes, coaching insights, and quality signals.
Create prescriptive experiences helping clinicians identify optimal next actions for patients.
Partner with clinical leadership, providers, product, design, data, and compliance to define and measure care quality.
Design human-in-the-loop systems featuring strong evaluation, observability, privacy, and safety practices.

Requirements

6+ years of professional software engineering experience with modern full-stack technologies.
2+ years of hands-on engineering management experience.
Experience hiring engineers and managing performance, promotions, and career development.
Ability to remain technical enough to pair program and contribute directly to code when needed.
Exceptional product judgment, including the ability to write product requirement documents, critique designs, size opportunities, and make progress autonomously.
High proficiency with React, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, or similar modern technology stacks.
Experience shipping and owning production systems in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
Authorized to work legally in the United States.

Nice to Have

Artificial intelligence or machine learning product experience, specifically involving large language model evaluation or human-in-the-loop systems.
