Engineering Manager, Prime Systems & Services
About this role
Prime Systems and Services builds and operates internal Kubernetes platforms and foundational infrastructure services that power CoreWeave operations. This brand-new team focuses on making these systems reliable, scalable, and easy to operate through a blend of software, systems, and reliability engineering.
As the engineering manager, you will build and lead a team of infrastructure and systems engineers from the ground up, translating an evolving charter into a sustainable operating model. Working alongside technical leadership, you will define how the team delivers, operates, and scales while remaining directly accountable for its people, priorities, and outcomes. Ideal candidates bring extensive background in software, infrastructure, or platform engineering, coupled with demonstrated experience in people leadership and production reliability.
What you will do
- Lead, hire, and develop a high-performing team of infrastructure and systems engineers.
- Set clear priorities, roadmaps, ownership models, and measures of success for the group.
- Define effective decision-making, escalation, and on-call practices as the team scales.
- Partner with technical leaders to guide architecture and deliver dependable infrastructure and automation.
- Establish robust practices for testing, observability, safe changes, incident response, and on-call operations.
- Utilize operational and delivery data to identify risks and guide future technical investments.
- Resolve cross-team dependencies while cultivating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What you need
- Bring 6 or more years of professional experience in software, infrastructure, platform, SRE, or production engineering.
- Demonstrate past experience in people leadership managing engineers responsible for production systems with high reliability standards.
- Possess practical working knowledge of Kubernetes, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure environments.
- Show evidence of improving operational practices such as on-call rotations, SLOs, observability, incident response, or change management.
- Have a proven ability to translate ambiguous ownership boundaries and cross-team dependencies into actionable delivery plans.
- Display capability in guiding technical tradeoffs and collaborating effectively with senior engineers without acting as the sole architect.
Nice to have
- Experience building a new engineering team or platform function from scratch.
- Experience operating Kubernetes at scale or directly on bare metal infrastructure.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation, GitOps workflows, and progressive delivery methods.
- Experience leading engineering teams with both active development and operational responsibilities.
