Role Overview

Crusoe is seeking a full-time Engineering Manager for Cloud Monitoring Services to lead the Platform team in San Francisco, CA. This position suits an experienced technical leader with a passion for growing teams and managing large-scale data systems that support demanding AI workloads.

Key Responsibilities

Guide, mentor, and manage a team of four to six software engineers directly, overseeing career development, performance cycles, and team health.
Own the time series and log storage systems as well as the query layer, ensuring proper behavior under heavy load and cost efficiency.
Plan, sequence, and deliver a complex product roadmap balancing customer features with core storage and query infrastructure.
Partner with Staff engineers to set technical direction, maintaining a high operational bar and reliable on-call rotations.
Collaborate across organizational boundaries with ingestion and collection teams, product managers, and leadership.
Drive recruiting efforts, manage interview loops, and onboard incoming engineering talent successfully.

Requirements

Bring at least 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in backend or distributed systems, such as databases, storage engines, query engines, or streaming pipelines.
Possess a minimum of 2 years of direct software engineering management experience, including performance management and career conversations.
Demonstrate hands-on familiarity with Kubernetes and backend environments utilizing Java, Rust, C++, or Go.
Proven track record of delivering multi-phase projects against deadlines while managing operational reliability.
Strong communication skills to articulate technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical partners.

Nice to Have

Background working with time series databases or columnar storage systems at scale, including Prometheus, Thanos, Mimir, VictoriaMetrics, InfluxDB, or ClickHouse.
Familiarity with query cost control, planning, pushdown, caching, and concurrency limits.
Experience with log storage and search systems like Loki, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
Observability domain experience spanning OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and cardinality management.
Experience with multi-tenant system isolation, quotas, fairness, and running software in accelerated or GPU computing environments.
