About this role

Designing bespoke PCBs, defining electrical architectures for UAV platforms, and selecting components for sensors, actuators, controllers, and power systems form the core of daily operations. Engineers on the Physical Products team build electrical systems that power, connect, and control defence AI platforms, bridging hardware and systems engineering to translate complex requirements into robust, field-ready electronics.

Operating in Munich, the team tackles unique engineering challenges within the defence sector, requiring a strong focus on robustness, safety, and reliability. Individuals who thrive here are mission-driven professionals capable of navigating complex technical constraints while engaging in transparent discussions about the ethical implications of defence technology.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and validate bespoke printed circuit boards from schematic through to hands-on bring-up covering power, digital, and mixed-signal electronics.
  • Define the electrical architecture of UAV platforms by producing wiring diagrams, power distribution schemes, and interface definitions.
  • Select and specify components across sensors, actuators, controllers, and power systems while balancing performance, cost, availability, and integration effort.
  • Integrate communication interfaces such as CAN Bus, Ethernet, and RS422/485 while supporting radio frequency and radio systems.
  • Define and execute unit-level tests and contribute to reliability and safety analyses like FMEA.
  • Produce clear design documentation including wiring diagrams, schematics, printed circuit board layouts, and bills of materials.

What you need

  • Have designed and integrated electrical and electronic systems in a professional engineering context, ideally in aerospace or a similarly demanding domain.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in printed circuit board design and layout with hands-on experience using electronic computer-aided design and simulation tools.
  • Possess the ability to interpret complex third-party datasheets and technical documentation to make sound design decisions.
  • Have experience designing cable harnesses, defining communication interfaces, and working with radio frequency or radio systems in hardware integration.
  • Collaborate effectively across mechanical, software, and systems engineering disciplines while communicating clearly in written and spoken English.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ECAD/MCAD co-design workflows and the integration of electrical systems into complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Contributions to reliability or safety analyses such as FMEA in a production or pre-production engineering context.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and VSOP options
  • Relocation support up to €2,500 and 4 weeks temporary accommodation
  • Yearly learning allowance of €500
  • Health and wellness benefits including gym membership and mental health support via Nilo.health
  • Regular company events and monthly social allowances
  • Enhanced parental leave and 5 days of paid family emergency leave
