Director, Order to Revenue Compliance
About this role
Protecting a rapidly scaling usage-based revenue engine requires dedicated fiduciary oversight at the intersection of product metering, billing systems, and financial accounting. Databricks needs a strategic leader to bridge the gap between raw product metering and financial ground truth, ensuring that consumption calculations remain accurate, complete, and fully compliant.
In this player/coach capacity, the director will lead a specialized team covering partnerships, royalty reporting, engineering compliance, and issue resolution. Daily responsibilities include establishing product launch controls, directing partner royalty reconciliations, and serving as the primary compliance lead for usage-related SOX controls and audits. Candidates who thrive here possess a strong technical and accounting background, demonstrated experience managing managers, and the ability to partner closely with engineering and finance data systems.
What you will do
- Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing team consisting of functional leads across partnerships, money/engineering compliance, and issue resolution.
- Serve as the primary business and compliance oversight body to ensure all financially impacting usage processes are accurate, complete, and validated prior to billing.
- Assume complete ownership of outbound and inbound royalty reporting, executions, and complex reconciliations with major cloud and software partners.
- Partner closely with engineering and finance data systems prior to product launches to validate metering, pricing models, SKU additions, and billing logic against business intent.
- Act as the primary audit lead for external audit, internal audit, and executive stakeholders regarding platform consumption calculations and monetization structures.
- Oversee the categorization and resolution of usage issues, standardize refund SLAs and credits, and drive mandatory cross-functional root cause analyses with engineering.
What you need
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related technical field, with a CPA license preferred.
- Bring over 12 years of relevant experience, including extensive background in revenue accounting, IT audit, and SOX control frameworks.
- Demonstrate familiarity with ASC 606 applied specifically to consumption-based and usage-based revenue models, SaaS, and complex partner royalty agreements.
- Show a proven track record of managing managers or functional leads while directly collaborating with executive leadership across engineering, sales operations, and FP&A.
- Exhibit strong technical and analytical acumen to bridge technical systems like product metering engines, SQL, data pipelines, and sub-ledgers with accounting rules.
