Role Overview

StockX is hiring a Director, AI/ML Engineering to direct artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives based in Detroit, MI. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the person in this position defines technical roadmaps, shapes architecture, and collaborates with product and data science leaders to drive marketplace impact across live, listings, and core business segments.

Key Responsibilities

Own the artificial intelligence and machine learning engineering roadmap and strategy, aligning technological investments with broader business objectives.

Build, scale, and mentor a high-performing group of applied scientists and machine learning engineers.

Direct project delivery across pricing, forecasting, search, recommendations, fraud prevention, and counterfeit detection.

Establish technical architecture and model decisions ranging from traditional machine learning to generative artificial intelligence.

Manage rigorous experimentation and A/B testing protocols to evaluate business impact.

Scale machine learning platforms and MLOps procedures to support reliable and cost-effective deployments.

Requirements

Ten or more years of relevant, hands-on background in applied science or machine learning engineering with experience running production systems.

Seven or more years of practical data science or machine learning experience covering multi-modal learning, computer vision, recommendation engines, or search.

Five or more years of engineering leadership tenure managing complex workstreams, hiring, and talent development.

Demonstrated ability to own artificial intelligence roadmaps and foster cross-functional partnerships.

Technical judgment spanning cloud infrastructure, model design, and experimentation.

Nice to Have

Background managing other managers or leading multiple applied science and engineering teams.

Domain background in e-commerce, marketplaces, or supply chain environments.

Advanced degree in machine learning, computer science, or a related discipline, alongside AWS and shared machine learning platform familiarity.
