This role is critical for establishing the technical foundation of the finance and accounting technology stack. The Director, Accounting Systems & AI Transformation will serve as the technical liaison between the accounting/finance organization and internal engineering teams developing custom tooling. The core mission of this position is to drive significant transformation in accounting operations by deploying AI agents to automate complex workflows.
The ideal candidate is someone who can bridge the gap between deep accounting process knowledge and technical system development, focusing on implementing automation solutions. This role is designed for a strategic operator who can lead complex projects, define technical requirements, and ensure financial systems support the company's aggressive scaling goals.
What you will do
- Lead the transformation of accounting processes through the implementation of new systems and automation strategies.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, including planning, timeline management, risk assessment, and executive reporting for multiple initiatives.
- Optimize existing platforms such as NetSuite and Salesforce by customizing workflows, saved searches, and SuiteScript.
- Identify, design, and deploy AI agents and LLM-based tools to automate tasks like reconciliations, close procedures, and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to translate business needs from accounting into detailed technical specifications for internal tools.
- Build and maintain necessary integrations between NetSuite, proprietary systems, and other internal applications.
- Support the Finance Department by creating necessary systems, reporting dashboards, and ad hoc automation solutions.
- Evaluate and pilot new AI/automation vendor tools, developing the business case for their adoption.
What you need
- Candidates must possess seven to ten years of combined experience in accounting/finance operations and systems administration.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise systems projects, transformation initiatives, or implementations is required.
- Proven ability to manage projects end-to-end, covering planning, execution, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), training, and go-live phases.
- Must have hands-on experience building or deploying AI/LLM-based automation, such as agents or workflow automation, rather than just theoretical knowledge.
- A strong understanding of core accounting processes, including closing procedures, reconciliations, and revenue management, is necessary to accurately identify automation opportunities.
- Comfort working directly with engineers to define technical requirements for integrations and custom tooling.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, MIS, or Computer Science is required.
