Role Overview

Elliptic is looking for a Data Science Lead in Washington, D.C. to direct the intelligence data science function. This position combines people management, hiring, and model governance with active technical contributions and coding.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and scale the data science team, setting objectives, managing performance, and establishing development paths.
Manage the full-cycle hiring process to grow the team from a small group to seven or nine members.
Define specifications and deliver data collections for compliance systems.
Maintain model governance, keeping inventories current, monitoring for drift, and managing remediation.
Frame research questions, run initial experiments, and recommend technical directions to leadership.
Maintain hands-on coding and review team methodology at a granular level.
Oversee existing commitments including clustering, attribution, heuristics, and labelling.
Collaborate across functions with engineering, product, research, and intelligence collection teams.
Establish AI working standards and verification processes for the team.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience managing data scientists or machine learning engineers, including performance management and staff development.
Experience owning technical hiring processes and establishing hiring bars.
Strong, current hands-on data science and machine learning capability with proficiency in Python and SQL.
Ability to interrogate large behavioural or transactional datasets and defend methodologies.
Track record of transforming ambiguous questions into delivered datasets, models, or capabilities.
AI fluency, demonstrating the ability to apply AI tools within data science workflows and critically evaluate outputs.
