About this role
Baseten needs someone to secure critical data center capacity and powered land by building deep relationships across a fragmented market of providers rather than relying solely on major players. As the Data Centers & Powered Land Sourcing Lead, you will map out the long tail of opportunities, evaluate new sites independently, and manage relationships from initial outreach through ongoing operations. Your work will directly support the broader compute strategy that powers inference infrastructure for machine learning companies.
The ideal person for this role is a sourcer at heart who excels at independent project management, commercial analysis, and careful relationship stewardship. You will collaborate closely with Finance and the Supply team to build business cases, track costs, and feed market intelligence back into the company. If you have a background in neoclouds, hyperscalers, or brokerages and prefer relationship-building over transaction-closing, you will thrive here.
What you will do
- Build and maintain a comprehensive map of data center and powered land opportunities focusing on the long tail of providers.
- Own the full sourcing lifecycle for each relationship from identification and outreach to negotiation support and ongoing management.
- Develop and manage sourcing relationships across neoclouds, hyperscalers, brokers, and independent operators.
- Quickly and independently evaluate new sites and spaces to determine fit and priority.
- Prepare business cases and cost analysis to support new opportunities while partnering with Finance where needed.
- Maintain accurate records of suppliers, contracts, and commercial terms as a reliable source of truth.
- Protect standing relationships with sound judgment to avoid burning bridges with critical providers.
- Feed market intelligence back into the broader Supply team with regular updates on pricing and market developments.
What you need
- Function as a sourcer at heart who thrives on building and maintaining a large network of long-tail relationships rather than closing individual transactions.
- Demonstrate strong project management instincts to own the full lifecycle of a relationship.
- Bring background experience in neocloud, hyperscaler, or brokerage environments involving data center or land sourcing.
- Ability to independently assess and prioritize opportunities without heavy hand-holding.
- Show comfort with commercial analysis including building business cases, tracking costs, and engaging in contract-level conversations.
- Apply high judgment and discretion in relationship management given the sensitivity of sourcing from key providers.
Nice to have
- Existing relationships across the data center and powered land brokerage community
- Familiarity with the broader GPU and compute supply landscape and how it intersects with power and site availability
- Experience managing supplier contracts or commercial records across multiple vendors or regions
