About this role
An analytical operator who thrives in ambiguous environments and possesses an ownership mindset will excel in managing infrastructure capacity here. Baseten powers mission-critical inference for dynamic artificial intelligence companies by uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and developer tooling.
The capacity manager takes charge of the operational and analytical supply side of the GPU fleet across neocloud and bare metal environments. Responsibilities center on minimizing hardware downtime, tracking fleet health, and coordinating closely with compute suppliers to ensure contracted resources match delivered capacity.
Operating without direct people management, the successful candidate drives execution through clear processes, metrics, reporting, and cross-functional alignment. Baseten recently raised a Series F funding round and offers a collaborative environment providing exposure to various machine learning startups.
What you will do
- Drive suppliers to keep the maximum amount of the GPU fleet online and healthy.
- Maintain a live reconciliation of contracted, provisioned, healthy, and utilized capacity broken out by supplier and cluster.
- Manage supplier-attributed fleet health accountability by owning replacement SLAs, mean time to repair, and RMA cycle times for every in-scope supplier.
- Monitor SLAs, file and pursue credit claims, and drive remediation plans when suppliers fall short of contract terms.
- Manage internal communications regarding supplier maintenance activities to ensure all stakeholders remain aware of availability impacts.
- Take on adjacent work and handle out-of-lane tasks as the function evolves and new operational gaps surface.
What you need
- Bring five to ten or more years of experience within infrastructure working within the compute lifecycle to maximize functional compute.
- Possess direct experience managing GPU, server, or data center hardware supplier relationships, including fleet health and RMA processes.
- Demonstrate high analytical capability with the comfort to pull data, build reports, and generate insights independently.
- Display comfort with ambiguity by determining what operational structures should exist and building them.
- Exhibit strong cross-functional collaboration skills to work regularly with finance, infrastructure, legal, and security teams.
Nice to have
- Experience at a hyperscaler, neo cloud provider, or AI infrastructure company
