About this role

Solace is hiring an Associate Data Scientist for a July 2027 start date in Redwood City, California, offering recent graduates a hands-on opportunity to build forecasting and machine learning models in a fast-paced startup environment. This in-person role requires working from the Redwood City office three days a week and is tailored for ambitious quantitative graduates eager to tackle complex healthcare challenges.

Role Overview

This position provides a rare chance to learn data science from the inside out at a rapidly expanding healthcare startup. As an Associate Data Scientist, team members work directly on the forecasting and machine learning systems that power the real-time marketplace, including matching patients with advocates and predicting demand. This is not a role for running textbook exercises; professionals contribute to real production models with mentorship from senior data scientists, requiring independent thought and rigorous methodological defense.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to real predictive models in the first few weeks, including forecasting, matching, and scoring systems that drive business operations.
Pull and wrangle raw data independently using SQL from Snowflake rather than relying on pre-cleaned datasets.
Support the design and analysis of A/B tests and experiments to measure the true operational and product impact.
Collaborate with data engineers to transition models from research notebooks into production environments, learning MLOps best practices.
Apply robust statistical principles to distinguish between actual signals and random noise.
Present findings and defend methodologies clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Frame problems, validate models, and make intelligent modeling decisions while growing professional craft.

Requirements

Bachelor's or master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Math, or a related quantitative field graduating between December 2026 and June 2027.
Strong foundational knowledge in statistics and probability, encompassing hypothesis testing and regression.
Working proficiency in Python, utilizing the core data science ecosystem such as pandas, scikit-learn, and NumPy, alongside working SQL skills.
Demonstrated project experience showcasing real quantitative work through research, internships, Kaggle competitions, hackathons, or personal modeling projects.
A bias toward action, high momentum craving, and a preference for shipping working simple models over endless polishing.
Comfort with ambiguity, strong curiosity for system mechanics, and a capacity for controlled chaos.
Confident communication skills capable of explaining advanced models to laypersons and receiving methodological critique gracefully.
High attention to detail and a strong drive to learn with a small ego.
Applicants must be based in the United States.

Nice to Have

Prior exposure to time-series forecasting techniques like ARIMA, Prophet, or exponential smoothing.
Coursework or project experience focused on causal inference or experimental design.
Familiarity with modern data tools including dbt, Airflow, Docker, or AWS cloud environments.
Experience working with NLP or unstructured text data.
