Role Overview

Mistral AI is hiring an Applied Scientist to drive cutting-edge research and collaborate directly with clients on challenging projects. The professional in this role will build state-of-the-art models spanning various modalities like text, speech, and images. By introducing novel research methodologies, the scientist will apply these advanced models across diverse domains and use cases. The position involves working closely with internal and external product, engineering, and science teams to deploy impactful artificial intelligence systems.

Key Responsibilities

Execute pre-training, post-training, and deployment of top-tier models on large clusters containing thousands of graphics processing units while troubleshooting memory and communication bottlenecks.
Create and curate datasets for training phases, oversee model evaluations, and ensure performance metrics exceed expectations.
Build internal tools and frameworks that streamline data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment processes.
Partner across functions to solve intricate challenges utilizing agents and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
Oversee research initiatives and maintain clear communication with external client research groups.

Requirements

Fluent in both English and Korean with exceptional communication abilities to explain complex technical ideas to any audience.
Deep expertise in PyTorch or JAX.
Capable of navigating large codebases independently with minimal oversight.
Write clean, readable, high-performance, fault-tolerant Python code.
Self-driven attitude with the ability to ship projects autonomously without needing constant roadmaps or management.
Collaborative, eager to learn, and low-ego personality.
Demonstrated track record of success through academic, personal, or professional projects.

Nice to Have

Holds a Master's degree or PhD in Machine Learning, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
Background in research areas such as multi-modality, agents, robotics, diffusion, or time-series.
Experience contributing to large-scale industry or open-source codebases.
History of publications in prominent academic conferences or journals.
Passion for refining existing codebases by adding tests, fixing typing issues, and enhancing CI pipelines.
