About this role

Wayve is hiring an Applied Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer in London, United Kingdom, to advance generative simulation systems for autonomous driving. This role is a strong fit for professionals with a solid background in generative video or world models who want to shape the future of embodied intelligence.

Role Overview

Wayve is seeking an Applied Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer for the Generative Simulation team in London, United Kingdom. The position involves developing next-generation world models and planners like GAIA. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of machine learning research, multi-modal modeling, and real-world deployment to improve simulation efficiency, interactivity, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Set technical direction and design key components of the generative simulation system.
Implement and debug new modeling capabilities through focused deep work and coding.
Brainstorm ideas with teammates, pair to solve difficult problems, and participate in daily sync-ups.
Review pull requests, experimental designs, and outcomes to provide mentorship and async feedback.
Read latest research papers and summarize them for team reading groups.
Invent efficient generative world models using diffusion, transformer, or hybrid architectures for real-time roll-outs and scene editing.
Architect interactive world models that enable reinforcement learning, planning, and safety evaluation loops.
Optimize end-to-end performance from latent compression to context pruning to reduce inference latency.
Define metrics for long-horizon coherence, physics fidelity, and planner integration, running scaling studies and ablations.
Integrate models into closed-loop training and evaluation, measuring the sim-to-real gap against on-road results.
Guide junior researchers, shape technical roadmaps, and publish work at top venues.

Requirements

4+ years of experience in machine learning research or engineering with a focus on generative video and world models.
Deep knowledge in diffusion and latent-video models with a track record of improving sampling efficiency or model throughput.
Experience working with high-dimensional temporal or spatial-temporal data such as video and multi-sensor fusion.
Strong Python and PyTorch engineering fundamentals with experience building research-grade production tools.
Strong publication record or contributions to open-source machine learning tooling.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment.
