Role Overview

Mistral AI is looking for Applied Scientist Interns to lead innovative research and partner with clients on advanced research initiatives. In this capacity, candidates will build top-tier models spanning various modalities like speech, text, and imagery. By inventing fresh methodologies and research concepts, interns will implement these models across multiple domains and use cases while cooperating closely with internal and external product, science, and engineering groups.

Key Responsibilities

Execute pre-training, post-training, and deployment of advanced models on clusters featuring thousands of GPUs.
Produce and curate datasets for training stages, handle performance evaluations, and guarantee that models surpass expectations.
Build the required tools and frameworks to support model training, evaluation, data generation, and deployment.
Partner alongside cross-functional personnel to address intricate use cases utilizing retrieval pipelines and agents.
Handle research projects and manage communications alongside client research teams.

Requirements

Fluent in English with strong communication abilities, capable of translating difficult technical ideas for diverse audiences.
Proficiency as an expert with JAX or PyTorch.
Comfortable contributing to a large codebase and navigating independently with minimal supervision.
Capable of writing clean, fast, fault-tolerant, and readable Python code.
Self-directed with the ability to move forward without a roadmap and navigate ambiguity confidently.
Collaborative, humble, and enthusiastic about learning.
Demonstrated history of success through academic, personal, or professional projects.

Nice to Have

Current enrollment in a Master's or PhD program within a relevant discipline like Machine Learning, Physics, or Mathematics, though exceptional candidates from alternative backgrounds are considered.
Preferred internship duration of at least six months, with priority given to candidates nearing the finalization of their studies.
Prior research background in multimodal models, agents, world models, robotics, diffusion models, 3D understanding or generation, cybersecurity, or time-series analysis.
Past contributions made to a major open-source or industry codebase.
Authored publications in prominent academic conferences or journals.
Passion for enhancing existing codebases through typing, tests, and CI pipelines.
