Role Overview

Mistral AI is looking for a Technical Lead, Applied AI to steer the technical strategy, execution, and delivery of advanced artificial intelligence solutions for enterprise clients in Paris. In this position, the professional leads project teams of Applied AI Engineers, making certain that Mistral products launch successfully and that high-impact, scalable AI use cases come to fruition. Acting as the primary technical point of contact for strategic accounts, the individual navigates customers through the entire lifecycle from pre-sales to post-implementation. Collaboration with research, product, and engineering teams remains a constant priority to align real-world enterprise applications with Mistral’s technological vision.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver critical lines of code as an individual contributor to de-risk complex projects, remaining deeply involved in coding, reviewing, and optimizing AI solutions.
Lead technical teams of Applied AI Engineers by offering mentorship, technical guidance, and best practices for deploying generative AI applications across industries.
Drive technical discussions during pre-sales engagements, translating customer needs into actionable solutions and communicating technological advantages.
Design and oversee the implementation of complex systems such as fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, and custom large language model applications.
Identify emerging trends in artificial intelligence, evaluate new tools, and champion optimal methodologies for inference, deployment, and fine-tuning.
Work closely with product managers, researchers, and engineers to integrate customer feedback into the product development cycle.

Requirements

Fluency in English.
A PhD or Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in AI or machine learning, including a minimum of 2+ years in a technical leadership capacity such as Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect focused on AI or enterprise solutions.
Demonstrated track record of leading teams to take complex AI projects from prototyping to production across sectors like finance, technology, healthcare, or industrial automation.
Deep expertise in fine-tuning large language models, advanced retrieval-augmented generation, agentic systems, and deploying natural language processing applications at scale.
Strong software engineering competencies, including system architecture, backend or full-stack development, and API design.
Exceptional technical communication skills to explain intricate concepts to executives, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Contributions to open-source projects, specifically within the large language model or artificial intelligence space.
Experience in customer-facing positions such as Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, or Technical Product Manager concentrating on enterprise adoption.
A history of driving technical strategy and influencing product direction based on market opportunities and customer requirements.
