Role Overview

Mistral is seeking an experienced Applied AI Software Engineer to join the Defense team in Paris on a full-time basis. This position suits senior or staff-level engineers who want to take broad ownership of core systems and stay deeply involved in implementation for high-stakes industries.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct services dedicated to data ingestion, transformation, storage, querying, and operational workflows.
Develop shared data models, software development kits, and application programming interfaces to support consistent application building.
Implement robust authorization architectures to define and enforce access controls for users, applications, and agents, complete with audit trails.
Tackle technical challenges involving data consistency, concurrency, schema evolution, performance, and failure recovery.
Transform requirements from applied engineers and defense users into reusable software capabilities.
Manage the complete delivery lifecycle, covering implementation, testing, observability, debugging, and ongoing maintenance in demanding environments.
Leverage AI coding tools and coding agents to accelerate development while upholding strict engineering standards.

Requirements

Strong practical familiarity with AI coding tools and agentic engineering workflows, remaining fully accountable for shipped code.
Proven track record of building and operating production software with significant ownership of complex systems.
Background in data engineering or the creation of transactional, analytical, or distributed systems.
Experience developing products where data governance, permissions, and access control are central.
Broad software capabilities with strong proficiency in Python, solid SQL skills, and the adaptability to work within Python and TypeScript environments.
High autonomy, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, and mentoring.

Nice to Have

Background in building data platforms or developer products utilized by other engineering teams.
Familiarity with multi-tenant architectures, fine-grained authorization, data lineage, or auditable operational workflows.
Previous involvement with self-hosted software, restricted networks, or challenging deployment constraints.
Understanding of large language model applications and their integration with data and tools.
