Role Overview

Mistral AI is looking for an Applied AI, Forward Deployed Machine Learning Engineer for a full-time position based in Paris. This role suits a technically skilled individual contributor who wants to bridge the gap between advanced research and practical enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

Drive the production deployment of high-impact use cases across various complex industries.
Build state-of-the-art generative AI applications, ranging from consumer goods to industrial solutions.
Partner closely with research, product, and engineering teams on intricate customer projects involving fine-tuning and advanced large language model implementations.
Contribute directly to open-source codebases focused on tasks like model inference and fine-tuning.
Participate in pre-sales conversations to assess prospective client requirements and offer technical guidance regarding company products.
Translate customer feedback into actionable insights to help the science and product teams improve model capabilities.

Requirements

At least two years of professional experience as a technical individual contributor working on artificial intelligence products as a data scientist or software engineer.
Demonstrated background in implementing machine learning solutions involving application programming interfaces, back-end systems, and front-end interfaces.
Practical experience handling large language model fine-tuning, complex retrieval-augmented generation, or agentic frameworks.
Solid comprehension of core algorithms and theoretical concepts behind machine learning and large language models.
Professional fluency in the English language.
Advanced programming capabilities using Python.
Excellent communication skills capable of breaking down complex technical subjects for diverse audiences.

Nice to Have

Prior contributions to open-source software projects, specifically within the generative artificial intelligence ecosystem.
Previous professional exposure working as a customer engineer, solutions architect, forward-deployed engineer, sales engineer, or technical product manager.
Hands-on background utilizing deep learning techniques with PyTorch.
