Mistral AI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer in Montréal to help customers adopt full-stack AI solutions and tackle complex technical challenges. This full-time position suits experienced data scientists or software engineers with a background in machine learning who enjoy client-facing technical work.

Role Overview

The Applied AI Engineer joins the Applied AI Engineering team to drive the successful deployment of Mistral AI products. This professional works closely with customers from the initial pre-sale stage through post-implementation. Daily responsibilities include managing relations with diverse stakeholders such as CEOs, CTOs, data scientists, and software engineers while bringing research into production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Onboard customers onto products and APIs by providing guidance on prompting, evaluation, and fine-tuning.
Ensure optimal production integration with back-end and front-end interfaces for state-of-the-art generative AI applications.
Deploy high-impact use cases across various industries like finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and defense.
Partner with internal researchers, AI engineers, and product teams on complex fine-tuning and LLM applications, contributing to open-source codebases.
Participate in pre-sales calls to assess client requirements and explain company technologies to technical and non-technical audiences.
Relay customer feedback to product and science teams to enhance model and product capabilities.

Requirements

Fluent in both English and French.
Holds a PhD or Master's degree in AI or data science.
At least 2 years of experience as a technical individual contributor working on AI-based products as a data scientist or software engineer.
Demonstrated experience fine-tuning large language models, building advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, or implementing agentic use cases.
Deep understanding of underlying machine learning and LLM algorithms.
Experience constructing and deploying NLP and LLM applications using APIs, back-end, and front-end interfaces.
Strong coding proficiency in Python and familiarity with PyTorch.
Experience utilizing agent frameworks like LangChain and working with vector databases.
Excellent communication skills for explaining complex technical topics clearly.

Nice to Have

Prior open-source project contributions, specifically within the LLM space.
Professional background as a Customer Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Product Manager.
