Role Overview

The Applied AI Engineer plays a vital part in driving the adoption of Mistral AI products among enterprise customers. In this position, professionals bridge the gap between advanced research and practical production environments. The role involves managing daily customer relations, guiding clients from pre-sale through post-implementation, and ensuring solutions meet high technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Guide customer onboarding for APIs and products, offering expert advice on prompting, evaluation, fine-tuning, and system integration.
Drive technological transformation by working on advanced generative AI applications ranging from consumer offerings to industrial use cases.
Deploy high-impact use cases across high-stakes industries in collaboration with enterprise clients.
Partner closely with researchers, product engineers, and science teams on complex fine-tuning and state-of-the-art language model projects.
Participate in pre-sales discussions to understand client needs and explain advanced technologies to diverse stakeholders.
Translate customer feedback into actionable insights for product and science teams to continuously improve model capabilities.
Contribute directly to open-source codebases for tasks related to model fine-tuning and inference.

Requirements

Fluent in English.
Hold a PhD or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence or Data Science.
Bring 2+ years of professional experience as a technical individual contributor working on AI-based products.
Hands-on experience tackling advanced retrieval-augmented generation, agentic use cases, and large language model fine-tuning.
Deep understanding of the concepts and algorithms that underpin machine learning and large language models.
Proven track record of building and deploying natural language processing applications and large language models.
Practical experience implementing machine learning products utilizing application programming interfaces alongside back-end and front-end interfaces.

Nice to Have

Previous contributions to open-source projects, particularly within the large language model space.
Professional background functioning as a Customer Engineer, Solutions Architect, Technical Product Manager, Forward Deployed Engineer, or Sales Engineer.

Skills and Tools

Python coding expertise.
Deep learning experience with PyTorch.
Familiarity with vector databases and agent frameworks like LangChain.
Strong communication skills capable of explaining complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
