About this role

Mistral AI is looking for an Applied AI Engineer, Robotics to join the team in Singapore on a full-time basis. This hands-on position suits professionals eager to bridge the gap between machine learning and physical robotic systems in real-world environments.

Role Overview

In this full-time role within the Solutions department, the selected professional will take state-of-the-art AI models and implement them onto physical robots for enterprise customers. The work spans across machine learning and physical systems, taking full ownership of the path from initial model creation to deployed autonomy. Collaboration with systems engineers, robotics specialists, and machine learning researchers is a core component of delivering end-to-end autonomous capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Integrate advanced AI models with embedded systems, robotic hardware, and diverse sensors to bring modern perception and language-driven capabilities onto physical machines.
Enhance the reliability, safety, and robustness of robotic systems functioning in unstructured, real-world locations.
Validate and test algorithms fluidly across both simulation environments and actual physical deployments.
Review field data to optimize model performance and overall system reliability, ensuring a closed-loop connection between training data and robot behavior.
Bring up, tune, and debug full autonomy stacks—including localization, mapping, navigation, and perception—ranging from sensor calibration to real-time performance.
Develop and fine-tune path planning and obstacle avoidance navigation behaviors for dynamic, cluttered environments.
Diagnose end-to-end failures like localization dropouts, mapping drift, timing issues, and perception edge cases.
Collaborate across disciplines to deliver complete autonomous solutions from early prototyping through production deployment.
Build and maintain necessary tooling for continuous improvement, monitoring, and deployment of active systems.

Requirements

Hold a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Demonstrate fluency in English along with strong communication skills.
Exhibit robust software engineering capabilities in Python and/or C++ to write clean, high-performance code and enhance production codebases.
Possess working knowledge of robotics frameworks such as ROS and ROS2.
Bring experience with robot perception, state estimation, SLAM, sensor fusion, localization and mapping, path planning, or computer vision.
Have solid mathematical foundations covering geometry, probability, and estimation.
Maintain familiarity with robotics development environments and simulation tools like Isaac Sim or Gazebo.
Show strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative, low-ego approach to interdisciplinary teamwork.

Nice to Have

Experience deploying machine learning models on edge or embedded hardware involving GPU/NPU inference, real-time constraints, and quantization.
Practical experience handling sensor modalities such as IMUs, depth cameras, or LiDAR, alongside calibration and time-synchronization.
Exposure to foundation-model approaches, VLA, or VLM models for robot perception and control.
Familiarity with navigation in GPS-denied locations or visual-inertial odometry.
Working knowledge of autonomy tooling like Nav2, Cartographer, AMCL, SLAM Toolbox, or RTAB-Map.
Experience with fleet-level navigation, dynamic costmaps, or behavior trees.
Past contributions to open-source machine learning or robotics initiatives.
Exposure to safety-critical or heavily regulated deployment environments.
A demonstrated track record of success through academic, personal, or professional projects.
