Role Overview

As part of the 1X World Model Lab, this position focuses on pretraining foundation models to accelerate embodied intelligence in NEO robots. Researchers contribute across the entire technology stack to help robots learn from experience and operate effectively in real-world environments. The charter centers on building AI systems, data engines, and infrastructure that enhance robot capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Build large multi-modal generative world models covering architecture, tokenization, and large-scale training to help robots predict, plan, and act.
Design and operate data infrastructure to handle web-scale media, egocentric data, synthetic data, and on-policy robot data for large-scale curation.
Own distributed training and inference systems to maximize GPU utilization, improve training throughput, and accelerate inference speed.
Construct evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, and model ranking systems that link pretraining metrics to physical-world robot performance.
Advance robot capabilities through research, pipeline scaling, throughput optimization, and robust evaluation protocols.
Transition experimental research into production by deploying capabilities directly onto robot hardware.

Requirements

Strong proficiency in Python and PyTorch, or an equivalent deep learning framework, alongside experience in large-scale codebases and data tooling.
Demonstrated experience in at least one core AI pillar: models and data, data infrastructure, ML infrastructure, or evaluation protocols.
A degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with graduate-level education or equivalent research experience strongly preferred.
Proven track record of impact through published research, deployed production AI systems, or infrastructure that accelerates team velocity.

Nice to Have

Experience with distributed training frameworks such as TorchTitan, DeepSpeed, FSDP, or ZeRO, as well as large-scale data processing and ETL systems.
Background in multi-modal generative models, world models, diffusion models, or autoregressive architectures.
Familiarity with inference optimization techniques including quantization, CUDA or Triton kernel development, and serving systems like TensorRT.
