Mistral AI is seeking a full-time AI Engineer, Product to join the Engineering & Infra team in Paris. This on-site role suits professionals with three to four years of experience who want to build and refine artificial intelligence features within dedicated product squads.

Role Overview

Embedded directly in a product team focusing on search, chat, documents, or audio, the AI Engineer, Product will elevate artificial intelligence features through rigorous evaluation, prompt and orchestration design, and rapid experimentation. The professional in this position will take complete ownership of their domain's artificial intelligence quality from start to finish, which involves defining success metrics, performing measurements, executing experiments, and deploying successful solutions. Collaboration with Science teams is essential to deliver measurable enhancements regarding quality, latency, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Design and execute evaluations for specific product areas, utilizing reference tests, heuristics, and model-graded checks tailored to search relevance, chat quality, document understanding, or audio performance.
Define and track vital metrics including task success, helpfulness, hallucination proxies, safety flags, latency, and cost.
Take ownership of prompt and orchestration design by writing, testing, and iterating on standard and system prompts.
Conduct A/B tests on prompts, models, and configurations, analyze outcomes, and make data-driven decisions on rollouts or rollbacks.
Establish observability for large language model calls through structured logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerts.
Manage model releases involving canary and shadow traffic, sign-offs, service-level objective-based rollback criteria, and regression detection.
Enhance core product behaviors such as memory policies, intent classification, routing, tool-call reliability, and retrieval quality.
Produce templates and documentation to help other groups author evaluations and ship features safely.
Partner with Science teams to diagnose regressions and lead thorough post-mortems.

Requirements

Possess three to four years of professional experience, with ideal backgrounds including machine learning engineers transitioning closer to product or software engineers with genuine production artificial intelligence and machine learning background.
Demonstrate strong programming proficiency in either TypeScript or Python.
Bring practical production experience working with large language models, covering prompts, tool or function calling, and system prompts.
Show hands-on capability with evaluations and A/B testing, including the ability to design metrics rather than just run them.
Feel comfortable writing implementation code directly within product codebases rather than working exclusively in notebooks.
Bring background in observability practices such as logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
Maintain a strong product mindset focused on forming hypotheses, running experiments, interpreting data, and shipping code.
Display clear communication skills, autonomy, and a strong orientation toward production impact.

Nice to Have

Experience with safety systems, including moderation, personally identifiable information handling, redaction, and guardrails.
Background in release operations, such as canary deployments, shadowing, automated rollbacks, and experiment platforms.
Prior professional focus on search ranking, chat systems, document artificial intelligence, or audio machine learning features.
