Fathom is hiring an AI Engineer to work in a hybrid capacity based out of San Francisco, California. This role blends engineering, product management, analytics, and research to prototype, refine, and upgrade cutting-edge features for an industry-leading AI meeting assistant.
Role Overview
As an AI Engineer at Fathom, the selected candidate takes a hands-on approach with large language models to design and refine product features. This position combines elements of engineering, analytics, product management, and research to generate practical specifications that guide the engineering team. It is ideally suited for professionals currently working as AI Engineers, as well as software engineers or data scientists with deep experience in building artificial intelligence features. The position is open exclusively to applicants in the United States and requires working three days per week in the San Francisco office.
Key Responsibilities
During the first 30 days, the engineer upgrades existing features to become faster and smarter by leveraging prompt engineering techniques with the newest available models. They also improve or establish new evaluation methods for current capabilities. Within 90 days, the individual prototypes brand-new artificial intelligence features addressing valuable use cases, fine-tunes models for specific company requirements, and builds new processes to accelerate migration to emerging AI models.
Requirements
The position calls for hard skills including robust prompt engineering experience to achieve reliable model outcomes, proficiency in Python for building end-to-end prototypes, and foundational analytics skills using Python or SQL. Applicants must hold a Master's degree in a related field. Soft skills required include strong attention to detail, a curiosity-driven and pragmatic mindset focused on results, a generalist perspective, resilience in solving complex problems, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
