Role Overview

Sourcegraph is hiring a technical leader to own and steer the Code Plane team, which develops crucial products like Batch Changes, Agentic Batch Changes, Code Monitors, Code Insights, and the src CLI tool. The chosen candidate will set architectural direction, tackle complex technical problems across the stack, and collaborate closely with product and design. Working hours must overlap with CEST for at least 20 hours per week, with preferred locations in Europe or Eastern Standard Time.

Key Responsibilities

Build deep familiarity with Code Plane surface areas by operating them from the perspective of a user and an agent.
Drive the product and technical roadmap from concept to shipping, scoping projects and clarifying priorities.
Own a meaningful slice of Agentic Batch Changes end-to-end and deliver critical features.
Strengthen engineering practices including system design, code review standards, testing protocols, and release workflows.
Mentor teammates, establish high-trust relationships, and act as a central technical visionary for architecture and quality.

Requirements

8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Professional background building end-user product features such as developer tools, AI products, CLIs, or technical product surfaces.
Proven fluency across backend and frontend technologies including Go, TypeScript, SvelteKit, React, GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL, Docker, and Kubernetes in a multi-service setup.
Hands-on experience building systems that agents or other programs call, such as tool surfaces, MCP servers, agent SDKs, or CLIs designed for non-human callers.
Direct experience using and reasoning about coding agents with strong opinions on human-agent workflows.
Excellent async-first communication skills with experience thriving in a globally distributed remote team.

Nice to Have

Orchestrated autonomous work at scale with resilient failure recovery and controlled budgets and blast radiuses.
Experience owning an inherited service with paying customers and improving it without a full rewrite.
Track record of elevating engineering standards around testing, code reviews, or AI assistant usage.
Prior experience serving as a Team Lead or Tech Lead on a software engineering team.

Above-market base salaries determined by location zones for the IC5 band, starting at $192,000 USD for Zone 2 and $144,000 USD for Zone 3.
