Role Overview

Flow Engineering seeks a Staff Software Engineer - Security for its San Francisco location to establish the security architecture, harden the platform, and manage compliance. The person in this role will protect sensitive systems used by defense and aerospace customers while securing core AI and agentic workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the security architecture by performing threat modeling, secure design reviews, and establishing engineering standards
Protect the full stack through cloud infrastructure hardening, identity and access management, tenant isolation, and data protection
Lead compliance efforts for SOC 2, export control, and ITAR certifications
Implement guardrails and defenses for AI and agentic systems against prompt injection and data leaks
Implement internal security tooling for vulnerability management, detection, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines
Direct incident response procedures from detection through postmortems
Partner with the sales and product teams to navigate security reviews with customers

Requirements

Minimum of eight years of professional experience developing production software and operating secure cloud services at scale
Extensive background in application and cloud security across major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
Prior experience managing security within regulated or high-trust industries and implementing SOC 2 independently
Demonstrated expertise in threat modeling, incident response, and secure architecture principles
Practical experience securing language models or artificial intelligence systems
Ability to operate autonomously as the primary security lead in a startup environment

Nice to Have

Familiarity with FedRAMP, export control, or ITAR frameworks
