Role Overview

The Staff Software Engineer - Core position at GoGuardian involves building and maintaining client applications within the safety product suite across the United States. This role is ideal for an experienced developer with a background in desktop or endpoint software who enjoys solving complex deployment challenges for student safety solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain the GG App across Windows, macOS, and iOS platforms, including background services and update mechanisms.
Own Windows installer engineering by creating MSI and EXE packages with the WiX Toolset, ensuring silent install flows and proper code signing.
Build and maintain enterprise deployment paths for tools like Microsoft Intune, Active Directory Group Policy, SCCM, PDQ Deploy, and Apple MDM.
Design and operate auto-update systems, including lightweight background updaters, differential updates, and signed packages delivered via CDN.
Write PowerShell and platform scripting to automate installation, uninstallation, registry and service management, logging, and diagnostics.
Navigate customer information security constraints such as User Account Control, elevation, certificate-based trust, and endpoint-protection interactions.
Build or integrate install and upgrade health reporting features, contributing to required backend and API development.
Lead application architecture decision-making processes and champion artificial intelligence adoption across engineering workflows.
Participate in an on-call rotation for production application support, monitor service reliability, and build supporting AWS infrastructure.

Requirements

Bring eight or more years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on desktop or client applications deployed to managed devices.
Possess deep Windows platform expertise, including installer engineering, Windows services, the registry, and code signing.
Demonstrate strong PowerShell and scripting abilities for automation, service management, and logging.
Have hands-on experience deploying software at scale through enterprise systems management tools like Intune, Group Policy, SCCM, or PDQ Deploy.
Understand auto-update systems, endpoint security realities, and certificate-based trust.
Hold direct involvement in shipping at least one production application or product to end users.
Show competency in one or more programming languages, with a preference for Go, C#/.NET, Swift, or C++, alongside full-stack fluency in JavaScript, React, or MySQL.

Nice to Have

Experience working with Kafka or other event-sourcing systems.
Prior experience shipping software into K-12 or other highly managed IT environments.
An interest in machine learning and artificial intelligence technology.
