fal is seeking a Staff Security Engineer, Infrastructure to join their engineering team in San Francisco. This full-time role is ideal for an experienced security professional with a strong background in protecting large-scale distributed systems and cloud platforms.

Role Overview

The Staff Security Engineer, Infrastructure will focus on securing the foundational systems that power the fal.ai platform, encompassing GPU compute, multi-cloud environments, data pipelines, and networking. This hands-on, systems-oriented position operates at the intersection of infrastructure, security, and distributed systems, creating security controls that scale seamlessly with a high-performance artificial intelligence platform.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement comprehensive security controls across cloud infrastructure, containerized workloads, and Kubernetes.
Manage networking, edge systems, service meshes, CI/CD pipelines, and secure compute environments designated for GPU workloads and model execution.
Implement Zero Trust principles, machine identity, workload authentication, short-lived credentials, and robust encryption and secrets management.
Protect customer data, inference endpoints, and model weights by designing secure data access pathways and multi-tenant isolation mechanisms.
Create security guardrails within infrastructure and CI/CD, leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code to enforce secure defaults and automate vulnerability remediation.
Perform threat modeling, mitigate risks across multiple infrastructure layers, and defend against both external attackers and insider threats.
Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, ML, and infrastructure teams to promote shift-left security and foster a strong security culture.

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in infrastructure, SRE, or security engineering.
Comprehensive understanding of cloud security across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including segmentation, firewalls, and Zero Trust architecture.
Expertise in Linux systems and container security utilizing Docker and Kubernetes.
Proven experience building or securing production infrastructure at scale.
Deep knowledge of authentication and authorization systems, cryptography basics, secrets management, and common attack vectors.
Programming proficiency in at least one language such as Python or Go.
Practical experience using Infrastructure-as-Code tools, with a preference for Terraform, alongside a strong automation mindset.

Nice to Have

Prior experience working with GPU infrastructure or machine learning systems.
Background in multi-tenant platform isolation.
Familiarity with service mesh and zero-trust architectures.
Experience thriving in high-growth startup environments.
