The Staff Product Software Engineer role at Luma AI is an opportunity to guide technical strategy and direct AI coding agents to ship production systems efficiently. Based in Redwood City, California with remote flexibility, this position suits an experienced technical leader with strong system design judgment and product intuition.

Key Responsibilities

Direct AI coding agents to build production systems quickly while maintaining high standards for system design and real-world behavior.
Decide what features to build and what to leave out as implementation costs drop.
Establish technical direction across the engineering organization, including system boundaries, data models, ownership, and operational expectations.
Co-own product direction alongside design and research teams.
Make and stand behind challenging trade-offs regarding speed, reliability, complexity, and extensibility.
Shape architecture early and own critical outcomes end to end from initial framing to final deployment.
Mentor fellow engineers on leveraging AI tools without lowering standards, and eliminate recurring classes of design mistakes.

Requirements

8+ years of professional experience building and shipping production software.
Experience delivering multiple non-trivial projects where technical direction and execution were owned end to end.
A history of making high-stakes technical decisions that materially affected a system or product.
Fluency with AI coding tools used to ship real functionality in production or substantial side projects.
Strong technical depth encompassing system design, distributed systems, security, and infrastructure, or strong product intuition involving user empathy, prioritization, and UX taste (ideally both).

Nice to Have

Personal responsibility for a measurable real-world success, such as a product serving 100k+ users or 1M+ monthly actives.
Experience with a system serving millions of requests a day.
An open-source project with 10k+ stars or meaningful adoption.
