Bloomreach is building an agentic platform for personalization that powers autonomous search, conversational shopping, and automated marketing workflows through its core AI engine, Loomi. The Search Quality team designs intelligent systems that interpret user queries, product catalogs, and behavioral signals to improve discovery experiences across global retail and enterprise brands.
The organization is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to guide the architecture and technical roadmap for search relevance and AI-driven solutions. This person will take end-to-end ownership of complex technical challenges, combining machine learning expertise with software engineering to scale production systems. An ideal candidate possesses deep experience in information retrieval, strong coding abilities, and a collaborative approach to mentoring engineers and aligning product goals.
What you will do
- Own the technical roadmap and provide architecture leadership for machine learning and AI-driven relevance solutions.
- Design, develop, and enhance machine learning and AI models and algorithms for search and relevance systems.
- Manage model evaluation and experimentation frameworks to ensure high-quality deployments in production.
- Analyze search queries, product catalogs, and user behavior data to identify patterns and drive relevance improvements.
- Collaborate with software and data engineers to integrate and scale machine learning components into production systems.
- Mentor engineers and influence cross-team decisions to align engineering and product objectives.
- Stay current with ongoing developments in machine learning, information retrieval, and generative AI.
What you need
- Hold a degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, backed by a strong mathematical foundation and excellent programming skills in Python alongside a backend language such as Java or Go.
- Demonstrate over 8 years of experience building machine learning-driven systems and algorithms in production environments.
- Possess strong software engineering skills with experience building low-latency, scalable distributed systems in the cloud.
- Bring a strong background in search, information retrieval, ranking, or search relevance using large-scale data and machine learning systems.
- Show hands-on experience applying large language models to search and machine learning problems while addressing quality, latency, and cost trade-offs.
- Have relevant search retrieval experience in at least one area including RAG, lexical search, vector search, or recommendation systems.
- Maintain effective communication skills in English for both verbal and written collaboration.
