What you will do
- Set the technical direction and define system architecture alongside product leadership while making build-versus-buy choices.
- Deconstruct ambiguous business problems into manageable increments and guide cross-functional alignment.
- Design, deliver, and maintain production-grade scalable pipelines and robust backend services.
- Integrate artificial intelligence workflows and machine learning capabilities into production infrastructure when needed.
- Lead complex technical initiatives, author RFCs, and facilitate architectural reviews across teams without formal authority.
- Monitor service level objectives, troubleshoot live production issues, and ensure long-term system reliability.
- Elevate organizational engineering standards through mentorship, code reviews, and documentation.
What you need
- Demonstrated expertise using Python as a primary backend language alongside production experience in at least a second programming language.
- Proven history of designing and owning large-scale production systems that serve real users with measurable architectural accountability.
- Experience driving cross-team technical initiatives, migrations, or platform changes without relying on formal management authority.
- Strong system design fundamentals focusing on data flow, operational costs, and failure modes.
- Extensive operational and DevOps background encompassing Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, observability, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Documented track record of mentoring software engineers and improving team engineering practices.
Nice to have
- Experience leading large-scale platform rewrites or migrations
- Hands-on production background with NLP pipelines, LLMs, or document understanding systems
- Familiarity with Java and infrastructure tools like GitOps or ArgoCD
