About this role

Jobber invites a remote-based Staff Data Scientist to own automated decisioning models and systems for small home service businesses. This senior individual contributor role suits an experienced machine learning practitioner who combines technical depth with commercial sharpness to drive predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Role Overview

Jobber seeks a Staff Data Scientist, Applied Machine Learning to join the growing Data Science team within the Strategy and Analytics Department. Reporting to the Manager of Data Science, the person in this position will operate production machine learning systems, handle real-time serving, and build retrieval-augmented generation architectures. The role involves working remotely with high-velocity SaaS event data, scheduling information, and payments data.

Key Responsibilities

Build, improve, and maintain SignalGraph by evolving metric-family contracts, operating the Neo4j and series-refresh pipeline, and strengthening investigation diagnostics.
Design, build, and evaluate retrieval-augmented generation systems on top of the graph, managing retrieval quality and context.
Own production machine learning end-to-end, covering training pipelines, real-time serving, monitoring, drift detection, and retraining.
Establish systematic evaluation and regression testing as standards for the team to measure model and LLM system quality over time.
Set the technical bar by driving MLOps standards, shaping the feature store roadmap, reviewing peer work, and mentoring other scientists.
Partner directly with senior leadership to present work, defend assumptions, and help cross-functional partners reframe problem approaches.
Stay current on AI and machine learning methodology developments and translate them into shipped capabilities.

Requirements

Production machine learning experience covering end-to-end training, deployment, serving, and maintenance of models acting on real users.
Strong statistics foundation with the ability to reason about bias and variance, justify loss functions, and distinguish signal from noise.
Expert SQL and production-grade Python skills.
Depth in modern machine learning methods including deep learning, neural architectures, transformers, RNN/CNN, ranking, representation learning, and LLMs in production.
Experience designing custom and asymmetric loss functions for scenarios where missing in one direction carries higher cost.
Experience with large data in production environments using platforms such as Snowflake, Apache Airflow, and cloud infrastructure like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Strong communication, stakeholder alignment, and influence without authority skills.
Commitment to quality over shipping speed alone.

Nice to Have

Graph experience including graph theory, graph neural networks, knowledge graphs, or graph databases such as Neo4j.
Software engineering background in services, model serving with REST or gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and feature stores.
Experience with Snowflake, Snowpark, and Snowpark Container Services.
Experience building large language model evaluation frameworks.
