About this role

Engineers who thrive on combining robust backend architecture with modern AI tooling will find a strong fit within CentralReach's Essentials squad. The team builds and maintains autism and IDD care software utilized by over 200,000 educators and therapy providers. Daily responsibilities include shaping technical direction, writing clean Ruby on Rails and React code, and integrating LLMs and automation into engineering workflows while maintaining strict healthcare data guardrails.

CentralReach exists to scale specialized therapy and education delivery through innovative technology. This role requires an experienced full-stack practitioner who can lead projects end-to-end, mentor teammates, and balance hands-on development with clear cross-functional communication. Candidates who enjoy working in a distributed environment and applying practical AI-assisted engineering will succeed here.

What you will do

  • Contribute to architecture decisions and unblock teammates on the Essentials squad while staying hands-on in Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React.
  • Write clean, maintainable, refactor-friendly code and elevate quality through thoughtful code reviews and pairing.
  • Design and optimize back-end systems, APIs, and data flows with a focus on performance, reliability, and efficient SQL usage.
  • Build modern, responsive front-end experiences using React, TypeScript, and CSS with maintainable architecture in mind.
  • Lead projects end-to-end by balancing development tasks with guiding others, surfacing risks early, and communicating trade-offs.
  • Collaborate cross-functional with product, design, and QA to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Embrace AI-assisted engineering by utilizing tools like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, contributing to shared prompts, and building agentic workflows.
  • Identify and prototype opportunities to apply LLMs and automation to internal workflows while adhering to healthcare data and billing guardrails.

What you need

  • At least 7 to 10 years of full-stack development experience with Ruby on Rails as a core strength.
  • Prior experience with React, with 5 or more years preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading projects end-to-end from problem breakdown to shipping impact-driven features.
  • Experience with daily, hands-on fluency in AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot.
  • Practical experience or strong demonstrated interest in building with LLM APIs, including prompt design, evaluation, and safety considerations for sensitive data.
  • Strong project management skills encompassing planning, estimation, scoping, and the ability to work in an ever-changing environment.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with a base salary range of $120,000 to $180,000 USD
