Sr. Robotics Field Engineer
About this role
Managing the setup, integration, and maintenance of autonomous forklifts directly at customer sites forms the core of daily operations for the Robotics Deployment Operations team. Engineers in this position operate as the primary technical lead on the ground, directing deployment schedules, evaluating site risks, and serving as the direct point of contact for clients through Go Live.
Third Wave Automation applies modern machine learning to materials handling, delivering site-specific navigation and infrastructure-free pallet handling for warehouses. This role requires individuals who can debug Linux-based stacks from first principles, perform hands-on hardware repairs when necessary, and collaborate closely with offsite engineering and product teams to enhance system reliability. Candidates who thrive in client-facing environments, possess strong cross-functional communication skills, and enjoy solving complex physical and software challenges in industrial settings will find a strong fit here.

- Debug the on-site technology stack including Linux, networking, services, and telemetry to provide actionable root-cause analysis.
- Perform hands-on hardware tasks such as parts replacement, retrofits, and field upgrades using hand tools when needed.
- Interface with customer warehouse management systems and serve as the main face of the company during deployment.
- Write internal tools and scripts using Python, C++, or LLMs to automate repetitive setup and troubleshooting tasks.
- Document field findings into implementation playbooks, optimization notes, and best practices for future deployments.
