About this role
The Integrations Platform team at Pinwheel builds the services, primitives, and tooling that power over 1,800 integrations at scale, including proxy management, browser automation, identity flows, and session handling. This senior backend engineer takes ownership of AI-driven, platform-level problem spaces from end to end while increasing the productivity of the broader Integrations Engineering team through robust systems design and tooling. Responsibilities include designing new integration infrastructure, setting technical direction in ambiguous spaces, and leading projects alongside junior and mid-level colleagues.

What you will do
- Own platform initiatives end-to-end by scoping, designing, building, shipping, and maintaining core infrastructure.
- Drive systems design for new integration infrastructure including services, queues, data pipelines, and asynchronous workflows.
- Lead projects staffed with junior and mid-level engineers to make them measurably more productive through code reviews and design feedback.
- Identify and eliminate entire classes of problems rather than patching individual one-off bugs.
- Set technical direction within ambiguous problem spaces.
- Collaborate closely with integration and adjacent teams to ensure platform primitives meet real consumer needs.
What you need
- Bring at least five years of backend engineering experience to the role.
- Hold a Computer Science degree or possess comparable professional experience.
- Demonstrate AI-forward thinking by showing a strong willingness to drive artificial intelligence projects forward.
- Exhibit strong systems design capabilities where architectural decisions are adopted by peers, trade-offs are defended, and failure modes are anticipated.
- Show demonstrated autonomous project leadership through examples of owning ambiguous, multi-quarter projects from inception to business outcomes.
Nice to have
- Integrations experience with third-party APIs, auth flows, rate limits, and external systems
- Browser automation experience using Selenium, CDP, or Playwright
- Browser fingerprinting and detection work
- Experience designing and operating services handling concurrency, failure modes, and meaningful scale
- Experience with backend platform and infrastructure such as services, queues, data pipelines, and async processing
- Expertise in Python
- Experience working in Fintech or comparable regulatory environments
- Track record of reducing oncall noise
