Role Overview

This remote position focuses heavily on backend development, custom module creation, system integrations, and utilizing artificial intelligence to streamline business and engineering procedures. The professional joining the team will manage tasks from initial design through final release while working alongside frontend developers, quality assurance staff, product managers, and infrastructure specialists. The engineer reports directly to the Vice President of Software Engineering and helps maintain high standards of platform reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Own the complete lifecycle of backend development, creating custom Adobe Commerce modules and resolving complex technical challenges following platform best practices.

Build and maintain robust REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and asynchronous processing pipelines for headless digital experiences.

Identify repetitive business and technical tasks, implementing practical artificial intelligence solutions, model APIs, and automated workflows.

Write, maintain, and oversee unit tests while integrating automated quality checks into deployment pipelines.

Provide support for Shopify operations, building integrations, app components, Liquid customizations, and troubleshooting utilities.

Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, environment management, and cross-team collaborations.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of strong hands-on professional experience working with Magento 2, Adobe Commerce, and PHP.

Demonstrated ability to extend platform functionality cleanly without altering core code.

Practical background creating GraphQL schemas, custom resolvers, and handling webhooks or third-party REST integrations.

Experience designing prompts, working with large language model APIs, and embedding artificial intelligence tools into operational workflows.

Competency writing utility scripts using Python, Node.js, or PHP.

Familiarity with PHPUnit, unit testing best practices, and verifying automated test outputs.

Working knowledge of Shopify development, Liquid, and the Shopify APIs.

Experience utilizing Adobe Commerce Cloud environments, Git version control, and continuous integration workflows.

Nice to Have

Background constructing multi-step artificial intelligence agents or workflows that interact with external tools safely.

Experience transitioning artificial intelligence prototypes into production while monitoring cost, accuracy, and reliability.

History of diagnosing complex backend performance issues related to database queries, caching layers, or asynchronous processing.
