Role Overview

AfterQuery is hiring a full-time Software Engineer - Platform Infrastructure in San Francisco to design and build the core infrastructure powering data generation, evaluation, and agentic systems. This role is ideal for technical professionals who want to shape foundational systems that support frontier AI model development.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop shared infrastructure for data generation platforms, human-in-the-loop systems, and evaluation pipelines.
Construct systems that process large-scale datasets and high-throughput workloads with dependable reliability.
Develop reusable infrastructure and APIs that allow product engineers and researchers to build efficiently.
Engineer systems featuring robust observability, monitoring, and fault tolerance for production scale.
Help establish the long-term system architecture covering data pipelines, compute infrastructure, task orchestration, and storage.
Partner directly with engineers and researchers to facilitate novel AI experimentation workflows.
Set clear standards for system design, deployments, reliability, and operations.

Requirements

Demonstrated background in creating production distributed systems or platform infrastructure.
Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript, Node.js, Next.js, or related backend technology.
Practical experience operating and designing systems within cloud platforms like GCP or AWS.
Familiarity with event-driven systems and message queues including Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub.
Background handling high-throughput data pipelines and asynchronous processing frameworks.
Deep grasp of system reliability, performance, and scalability.
Proven history of owning and maintaining production-grade systems.

Nice to Have

Background in developing internal developer platforms or shared infrastructure components.
Experience supporting large-scale data processing pipelines.
Knowledge regarding AI infrastructure, machine learning pipelines, or LLM evaluation frameworks.
Experience operating within fast-growing startups during early infrastructure scaling.
Familiarity building human-in-the-loop frameworks or workflow orchestration systems.
