About this role

Role Overview

The Simulation Researcher/Engineer position at Luma AI is a full-time hybrid role based in Redwood City, California, with remote flexibility available. This position suits a professional with practical simulation-systems experience who wants to build environments and evaluation harnesses that train general-purpose robot policies at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Create simulation environments that combine generative rollouts and physics-engine scenes to ensure visual richness, physical plausibility, and scalability.
Construct evaluation harnesses to assess world models regarding sim-to-real gaps, physical consistency, and long-horizon coherence.
Create differentiable and GPU-accelerated simulation pipelines to unlock novel training signals.
Oversee asset, scene, and task generation pipelines while leveraging Luma's generative stack for enhanced diversity.
Partner with upstream world-model researchers and downstream policy-learning researchers.

Requirements

Strong background in robotics simulation, computer graphics, physics-based modeling, or generative 3D acquired through formal education or practical experience.
Professional fluency in Python and C++ programming languages.
Deep familiarity with at least one production physics engine, such as Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, Bullet, PhysX, or Drake.
Proven track record of successfully building simulation systems utilized by others.

Nice to Have

Prior research focused on sim-to-real transfer, domain randomization, differentiable simulation, or neural-rendering-based simulation.
Professional background in game engines, CGI, animation, or photogrammetry.
Academic publications at top-tier venues including CoRL, RSS, ICRA, NeurIPS, or SIGGRAPH.
